Blog: 40 A Matter of Perspective- God's GoodnessgdharpoolJul 24, 20232 min readWhat a Difference Perspective Makes. When I listen to some people describe their God, I quite frankly want nothing to do with him. They describe God as a supreme being whose primary purpose is to catch us in failure. They cannot skip past his love, grace, acceptance, and tolerance fast enough to get to judgment, hell, and damnation. It is no wonder the preaching of that God has resulted in millions leaving and/or avoiding the church at all costs. What if instead, we described God as I know him. A god of grace, mercy, and love. A God who forgives us through mercy and restores us through grace. A God who is “slow to anger;” “The Lord is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love...", Numbers 14:18. A God who does not condemn. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:1. A God who loves us even as sinners. ”But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8."Goodness of God" is a song by Bethel Music and Jenn Johnson. It states in part: I love You, Lord For Your mercy never fails me All my days, I've been held in Your hands From the moment that I wake up Until I lay my head Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God And all my life You have been faithful And all my life You have been so, so good With every breath that I am able Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God.The bridge to the song, boldly proclaims: 'Cause Your goodness is running after It's running after me Your goodness is running after It's running after me.What if we lived our lives believing that God chases after us, not to punish us but rather to spread is goodness on our lives. “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38,.39.Like the prodigal’s father, God chases after us, not to condemn, or say “I told you so” or make you something other than who you are, but simply to share the goodness of God.
